Many people ask me why I care about helping people who have Irritable Bowel Syndrome or IBS. The simple answer is because I used to have it.
My experience of Irritable Bowel Syndrome
My experience of IBS is what doctor’s would describe as ‘pretty typical’. If ‘pretty typical’ means:
- I know how hard it is to keep going when your body is playing up,
- how embarrassing it is to have to cope with it,
- how frustrating it is to keep trying things only to have them not work,
- how depressing it is when the doctor says you just have to live with it.
Then, yes, that was me.
My life with IBS was one of the reasons why I chose to do my Bachelor of Science dissertation researching the different approaches to treating IBS. I reviewed research using treatment protocols based on drug therapy with approaches used by medical herbalists and I compared it to what researchers were discovering about IBS. Based on that research I was able to create a treatment approach uniquely designed for me based on the current research available. And in case you’ve tried a bunch of stuff and it hasn’t worked, the key ingredient is crafting a treatment approach that works for you.
I was interviewed by Nick Williams a while back and in the interview I talked about herbal medicine and why I’m so passionate about it. I also shared a bit about my personal journey with IBS.
Anyhow, I thought it might be of interest to you so here it is:
